Tiwanaku (also spelled Tiahuanacu)

Tiwanaku (also spelled Tiahuanacu) is the oldest known culture in South America, spanning its history through 27 and a half centuries starting from 1580 B.C up to 1172 A.D. The prehispanic city of Tiwanaku was capital of a nation which covered the west part of Bolivia, north west Argentina and north of Chile. This city is found at 70 km of the city of La Paz and 10 km from lake Titicaca. There are several open temples, large one-piece stone walls mark the limits of these temples, several pyramid structures can be found here.
